The Aim of Emmaus

What is the aim of Emmaus? This is a question often asked of us when we offer to sponsor someone on a  Walk to Emmaus weekend. This is also a chapter title in the booklet, What Is Emmaus, available on our community book table. The answer given is this, “The aim of Emmaus is to inspire, challenge, and equip local church members for Christian action – in their homes, churches, workplace, and communities. The booklet goes on to explain that this is accomplished through:

The three-day Emmaus course in Christianity, which we all know is much more than your everyday study course.

  • The Emmaus follow-up reunion groups, which become a significant opportunity for personal support and discipleship growth for many of us.
  • Teams in servanthood, a continuing opportunity for practicing Christian service both on outside support teams and on conference room teams.
  • Local church involvement, our lifelong commitment to Christ and his church.

The personal relationships developed, the lessons in Christian discipleship learned, and the opportunities for service to Christ available through Emmaus have all been so very important to me during the past ten years. I would not be the same person today without having shared these experiences with many of you. I hope and pray that each of you continue to participate in Florida Sonrise Emmaus through the elements listed above. Is there someone you know who would be spiritually empowered through the Emmaus experience? Have you offered to sponsor them on a walk? I hope so. Christ is counting on you!

On the journey,

Jim Page
